Hi SCARS, Eight years ago we adopted Wyatt (a.k.a. Wylie) through SCARS as a buddy for our Border Collie, Charlie who unfortunately passed in 2016. Although they had really different personalities, they were great buddies. When we lost Charlie, the vet suggested that Wyatt would make a great Certified Therapy Dog – and referred us to PALS in Calgary (we moved to Calgary in 2011).  He was a natural – kind, gentle, patient, loving, etc. and we have been volunteering ever since. PALS has over 500 volunteers with pets and we visit hospitals, libraries, schools, senior centres and the YYC Airport – spreading the love (and hair).

When joining PALS, I had Wyatt DNA-tested. For 8 years everyone assumed he was a German Shepherd/Terrier cross. Nope – he’s 50% Alaskan Malamute; 20% Terrier; 20% Beagle; and 10% Wolf.

We are forever grateful to SCARS and are happy to see that Rubin (our initial pick) is alive and well as a SCARS’ Sanctuary Animal. It’s nice to be able to keep tabs on him.

We recently adopted a stray cat, Amber, from the Calgary Humane Society, and I’m happy to say that they too are becoming good buds. Wyatt, Amber and I recommend “Rescues” every chance we get!

Just wanted to let you know that this happy story continues. Thank you all for what you do!
