How long have you been volunteering with SCARS?
April 5, 2025 was Sean and I’s first volunteer shift cuddling cats! April 27th was our first day walking dogs (Kristin walked Jasper, Cargo, Barbie, Ivy, and Goofy that day), and we haven’t stopped walking since!
Why did you start volunteering?
Sean and I moved to Morinville in 2024 and one day we drove by and heard the dogs barking outside. Something inside of us said “Hey, you should volunteer there!”, so we did! I think the question here is, why have we continued to volunteer? SCARS is an incredible organization filled with the most selfless and genuine people Sean and I have ever met (some of them have become our closest friends). This organization makes real and impactful change in so many lives, and we just want to be a part of that change. But just like so many others, we do it for the animals in care. We’ve spent hours with some of the most loving and deserving animals of a second chance. For me, it’s contributing to that second chance in any way that I can. Let’s just say if I win the lottery, there will be signs! LoL
What are all of the things you do as a volunteer?
Avid Dog walker at MRC, foster home, doggy railroad, I was a part of the promotional events team for a bit (which was super fun), foster home on boarding, adoption screening, and an adopter of SCARS.
Sean and I really do try to live by the motto “see a need, fill a need,” which is what we strive to do as volunteers of SCARS as well. We feel a lot of purpose in what we do as volunteers of SCARS, and are always happy to help in any ways that we can!
How many fosters have you had?
Seventeen! Don’t ask me for a favourite because that is impossible to answer. Fostering is by far the best decision we’ve ever made. Sean and I love opening our home to pups in need, and it brings us so much joy and pride seeing them blossom! I honestly couldn’t do it without Sean, he’s the best foster dad.
Do you have a favourite dog to walk?
That’s a tough one. Lots of dogs have come and gone since I started walking dogs last year. Oakley holds a special place in my heart, I love spending time with her (she’s my Chick-Fil-A and Starbucks buddy lol). I’m rooting for her, she’s the best dog. I love going on adventures with Mags and Kuna, and taking Granger and Zila together to the off leash park is always a blast! See! It’s impossible to answer! I love them all. Sean really enjoys spending time with Micks and Torro (before he went to a foster home).
Honestly, spending time with these dogs is legitimately healing, they’re incredible. Never a bad day with any of them!
An additional CONGRATULATIONS is in order to Kristin and her NEW HUSBAND Sean who just recently got married in Italy!
Everyone at SCARS wishes you both all the best and a lifetime of joy and happiness.
