Butters is my name or Buttercup as my foster mom calls me. I came to SCARS back in April when I was only 2 months old and terrified of everything and everyone. My foster mom has spent months hand feeding me trying to show me that people are okay. Finally I will let my foster mom touch/pet me but no one else yet! I have gotten to where I will take treats from some people and come close to sniff others without running and hiding. If anything startles me, I run and hide! I am housebroken and kennel trained (my kennel is my safe place). Please NO children as they move too quickly and loudly for me. I have gone from hiding from everyone to staying near when certain people like my foster grandparents come to visit; however, I still bark almost every time I see my 20 year old foster brother which is multiple times a day. I get along great with other dogs and play lots with the male dogs that visit so I'll do best with another confident dog in the home. I don't mind cats though I do bark at them. I am learning to play with toys and will somewhat play catch with my foster mom by dropping the ball near her. Foster mom has been introducing me to a collar and though I'm curious, I'm still not ready for it to be put on me. If you are willing to go slow and be patient with me I know I can become a great companion!

I'm a Sanctuary Animal

What's a sanctuary animal? Sanctuary animals are permanent wards of SCARS due to medical conditions or behavioral issues and we are not likely to ever find an adoptive family. SCARS is committed to giving these animals a home and the love, care and attention they deserve! We house them at our two main intake facilities. We look to businesses to sponsor Sanctuary Animals to help us offset the cost of housing them. Click here learn more about our Sanctuary Animals
Please note: If other cats/dogs in your home are not spayed/neutered, we may deny your application. SCARS exists due to lack of spaying/neutering and it is our goal to end this cycle. If there is a documented medical reason for your animal to not be spayed/neutered, we will work with you.
