Hi! I'm Hugh. I came into SCARS' care this summer with hundreds of quills in my face and body. They had been there for a while and I was very emaciated. While removing quills, the vet also found a pellet in my cheek. I have been with my caretakers for a few weeks now and they say I'm the happiest boy despite what I've been through. Living as a free roaming dog in a rural community, I've pretty much been able to do anything I want when ever I want - especially with my size. Because of this I can get frustrated really quickly. I am currently living in a kennel environment and seem to be fine with most other larger dogs around me (I'm very indifferent to them). I have seen a few small dogs and my caretakers aren't super comfortable with how fixated I am on them. Because I came in so emaciated, I am super focused on food. I will search for food, and if I can find it - I'll eat it. I will likely be a counter surfer and try to get all the snacks until I'm at an appropriate weight. So please make sure I am set up for success by putting all food type things and garbages away. I don't have many obedience type skills yet, but I will sit for my food and I have been crate trained. I would likely do best as the only animal in the home - but might do okay with the appropriate match of a female dog. If you think I might be a match for your family, please fill out an application!
