Hi! My name is Ladybug… but since I am, in fact, a dog and not an insect, most people call me Gladys.
(It’s basically the same letters, minus the B and U, with an added S, and it suits me perfectly!)
I’m a 5-month-old mixed-breed puppy with a birthday on August 7, 2025, currently living with my foster mom in central Edmonton. I came to SCARS through the Spay-Neuter-Return (SNR) Program and returned in January as a very thin and unsure girl. With lots of care and love, I’m now fully vaccinated and growing more confident every day.
I’m a sweet, smart, and food-motivated pup with beautiful markings, a speckled snout, expressive ears, and a soft white coat with a few adorable brown spots. I love learning and am eager to please. I already know sit and lie down (with hand signals!) and am working on stay, come, and off.
I love playing and enjoying my walks. My energy level is medium-high when I’m up and about (perfect for having fun). I love all toys, especially those involving food, but I also take my naps seriously and enjoy big, cozy snoozes.
Even with my playful energy, I know when to be calm. I was relaxed for my first bath, didn’t mind it at all, and did great getting my nails trimmed.
My potty training is going extremely well. Aside from my very first night home, I’ve done all my business outside. I’m taken out about every two hours during the day and get lots of praise for going outdoors. I also picked up kennel training quickly and now sleep happily through the night. My kennel is a positive, safe place (especially because that’s where I get Kongs, treats, and bully sticks).
Since I arrived, my puppy teeth have been falling out, and my foster mom has found five on the floor so far! Chewing feels a bit funny right now, but my big-girl teeth are coming in nicely.
People often ask what kind of dog I am. Once I clarify that I’m not actually a ladybug (Hence why I am called Gladys), I explain that I’m a mixed breed, likely with several terrier breeds, including pit bull. But really, all that matters is that I’m a very good girl.
I’m a champ in the car inside my kennel and love getting out with my foster mom, including trips to my foster mom's office and to a Special Olympics practice (where I adored the snowshoe athletes and coaches when I made my appearance at the end). I’m friendly and social, and I've done well meeting other nice dogs and, of course, people. Sometimes I can be unsure about people wearing hats or dogs I see from a distance, and I bark. I’m also working on keeping all four paws on the floor when excited, and I’m already making great progress with everything, and my manners get better every day.
I’m doing wonderfully in condo living with regular walks and potty breaks, and would likely do well in any type of forever home. I’m looking for a family committed to positive-reinforcement training, regular walks, and confidence-building to help me continue to grow into the wonderful dog I am. Older kids with dog experience would be best right now. I haven’t met cats yet, but dog-savvy cats may be possible with slow introductions. I’d love to attend puppy or obedience classes and keep learning how to be the very best girl I can be.
If you’re looking for a loving, playful, and clever puppy who is ready to grow with you, I’d love to meet you! 🐾
