What a time for me…
I came into care as a blocked kitty…. What does that mean for me?
Well…
The acute kidney injury that he had from being blocked for so long appears to have resolved, no evidence of current kidney damage but he may be more prone to chronic kidney disease in the future.
We have some strict stipulations for his adoption to ensure he is kept healthy in the future.
Longterm recommendations for the adopter include:
- Feeding Hill's early kidney care exclusively, as it has the StOx pH protection in it to prevent crystals in addition to being gentle on his kidneys. If an adopter ever switches his food, I would worry about him re blocking and having another kidney injury.
- Encouraging drinking through the use of a water fountain, having bowls changed frequently, consider Purina HydraCare supplement and supporting his hydration with having wet food provided daily.
- Yearly blood pressure checks and bloodwork to check his kidney values. It is very likely that he will develop chronic kidney disease in the future after having an acute injury to his kidneys, and monitoring is key to catching CKD early and therefore giving him the longest, best life possible!
He’s an amazing cat who can thrive, just needs the right place! Is that you?
