February 10, 2025 Update

Poor Twiggy had such bad mastitis and it opened up so badly she needed to see a vet again. She’s on antibiotics and hydrotherapy to fix it ASAP! Please keep her & all the puppies in your thoughts.

February 9, 2025 Update

Twiggy’s been having some wild health scares, very sick and not being able to feed her babies. Our volunteer team is now doing some bottle feeding while she works on getting strong and healthy again. We have separated them into groups of two, so they can all get the best attention. Hopefully we can reunite her with her babies when she is feeling better!

February 6, 2025 Update

Sweet Twiggy went in for a quick appointment with our friends at Westlock Vet. She has mild mastitis but was so proud to be there and show off her puppies!

No one suspected a thing. I arrived at the pound, emaciated and scared. My skinny condition hid a secret: I was about to give birth.

I was lucky in many ways. This is an indoor municipal pound that has formed a long, supportive partnership with SCARS. Help was not that far away.

As soon as my first puppy was born, calls were made, plans put in place. It took an amazing effort by a dedicated team, but here I am, and here is my family. I grieve the loss of two stillborn pups, but so far, my other six seem healthy.

We traveled hours to get to the Athabasca Rescue Facility (thank you, Caterina, the weather and the roads challenged you, and thank you to Patti for making space for me in your safe warm home tomorrow). I am so grateful for the safety, warmth, and care of this devoted team.

They have named me Twiggy. More on my journey to come. For now, I have one job to focus on—being a mom.
