SCARS is looking for a full time Team Lead—Animal Care Facilitator at our new Morinville Rescue Centre. Position Summary:

Reporting to the Acting Executive Director / Operations Director, this position will lead and support a team of employees and volunteers to ensuring that the needs of the animals in SCARS care are met and exceeded. The Team LeadAnimal Care Facilitator will manage the daily operations at the Morinville Rescue Centre facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the facility operates efficiently to provide optimal care for the animals including quarantine, disease prevention, and enrichment for the safety of employees, volunteers, and the animals
  • Establish work priorities and ensure procedures are followed and deliverables are met within defined timelines
  • Review, evaluate, document and implement administrative and operational procedures for the facility
  • Assist in the development and training of new team members and volunteers on SCARS policies and procedures
  • In conjunction with the Acting Executive Director / Operations Director, assist with intake and animal rescue as required
  • Daily cleaning of facility and animals to maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Feed and administer any medications as required
  • Driving to and from vet appointments
  • Participate in enrichment programs including walking and socializing animals daily
  • Communicate any medical or behavioural concerns to Management
  • Document and maintain accurate animal records. Assemble data and prepare periodic and special reports, manuals and correspondence
  • Work with and provide support to volunteers in a polite and professional manner
  • Respond to the public in a professional, courteous and timely manner
  • Respond to any emergencies as needed
  • Report any facility maintenance required
  • Maintain and track supplies
  • Develop volunteer activity calendar and schedule
  • Create and maintain employee shift schedules, coaching, and performance reviews

Qualifications:

  • Must have a genuine concern for the well-being of animals and a good understanding of their behaviours
  • Managerial experience overseeing team members and volunteers
  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Highly developed supervision, cooperation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to set priorities and balance workload.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience handling animals, including the ability and willingness to work with feral or under-socialized dogs and cats
  • Completion of Dog Behavior Training and Methodology (DBTM) is considered an asset
  • Must be able to work in a high paced environment
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License

Experience

  • Experience handling dogs and cats is required

Working conditions

  • Must be physically able to handle dogs and cats
  • Ability to respond to emergencies
  • Required to work alternating shifts (Day/Evening/Weekend) as aligned with the facility requirements
  • This job is high paced, physically demanding, emotionally exhausting at times. You will be working with animals from unknown backgrounds, animals with little to no training. Patience and compassion for their situation is a must, however, experiences are very rewarding
  • Travel is required

This is a full-time position (minimum 40 hours / week) and shifts may vary in order to accommodate the needs of the Rescue Centre.  Selected candidates will be contacted for an interview.

 Schedule and rate of pay will be negotiated dependent on qualifications and experience.
