February 20/26 – We are in need of a Sponsor for Sanctuary Animal Thumbalina!
Thumbalina is a Manx kitten who has Manx syndrome. What is that you ask? Manx syndrome is a gene mutation in a Manx kitten. It shortens the spine too much and causes a number of health defects. Thumbalina is one of those kittens. She has fecal incontinence and urinary incontinence and a wobbly gait when she walks. She is bathed twice a day and wears a diaper during the day which is changed frequently. She also has a special diaper cream on her butt every time she has a diaper change to keep her drier so she doesn’t get UTIs. She is susceptible to UTI as she is always dribbling. During the night she is kept in her own pen without her diaper on so air can circulate around her and help keeping her from a UTI. She is on a urinary diet to help her as well. Thumbalina foster mom is learning to manually express her bowel and bladder to help her. She is also given restoralax twice a day to soften her stool and help prevent mega colon. When foster parents will be gone for a few hours she is put back in her pen diaper free. The bedding in her pen is changed 3 or more times during the day depending on how much time she spends in her pen.
Thumbalina is a beautiful fun loving kitten who runs and plays with the other fosters. She is adorable and rocks her diapers like a movie star. Due to her special needs and care she is not adoptable and as there is no cure she will be like this her entire life.
With ongoing care and medication she can live a long and happy life and we at SCARS want to do that for her but we need your help with this!
