Hello SCARS, I wanted to let you know that our cat, Potato (we kept his original name) who we adopted as a kitten from SCARS 3 years ago suddenly and unexpectedly passed away from feline aortic thromboembolism (FATE) which was caused by an undiagnosed genetic heart disorder. We went to bed November 10th with a normal, playful cat and woke up on November 11th with him unable to walk. We rushed him to the emergency vets where they diagnosed him and gave us a very poor prognosis. They told us he wouldn’t live throughout the night. I would have done anything for Potato, he was my best friend. I’m not sure where his siblings ended up but they recommended his siblings be tested because they may have inherited it as well. I would love to save other families from the same possible heartbreak that we went through.
Potato gave us the best 3 years of our lives. He was my best friend, my boy, my baby. He was my shadow who would do everything with me. He was the cuddliest cat who loved to lay on his back and get belly rubs while he softy purred. He would jump on my back and sit on my shoulders as I did daily tasks like brushing my teeth or working out. He would turn on the kitchen tap, sneak the sponges from the sink, and grab his wet food out of the cupboard on his own. We have another cat and Potato loved to scare her. He would hide around corners and jump out at her as she came around. Everyone who met him, instantly fell in love with him because he was so friendly. The whole 3 years we had him, he never growled or hissed once. He never even scratched anyone. He loved playing with his toys but for some reason loved boxes even more. He was the perfect cat and he had the biggest heart. I liked to tell people that he was my cat true love. Our hearts are broken and we miss him so much. I don’t know what we are going to do without him but I want to thank you for giving us the best 3 years of our lives with him. I just wish it would have been so much more.
