Can you imagine sleeping in a gravel pit? Loud machinery all around, the smell of fire in the air? Can you imagine having only the scraps that the workers give you to survive on and having to fight for your life? That’s the reality that these two poor souls have had to endure the past few months while living at a fire camp.
If that’s not bad enough, then the fire went out and the humans started to pack up and leave. There was less food and it was starting to get cold so these poor little pups slept where they could. But one worker just couldn’t leave them behind so she contacted SCARS. She drove all day to get them to us. They were scared, tired and hungry but there was a warm bed and food waiting.
Going through so much to survive has bonded these two very closely. John stands over Dory and protects her. He lets her eat first and he allows her to eat his food if she’s still hungry. John is covered in old and new bite wounds, some infected, because he has protected little Dory with his life.
With some vet care, medication and lots of yummy food, these two should be on the road to recovery!
