Meet Jill.

It is hard to even begin to think about the impact Jill has had on SCARS in such a short amount of time. Jill is the creative genius behind our Christmas and Spring Craft Fairs.

“This whole thing started about five years ago. I like to knit and crochet. I would make scarves all year and, in November, have a “Scarves for SCARS” sale at work. I would retain a portion of the proceeds to buy more yarn for the next year and donate the rest to SCARS. Each year it got bigger and I started having friends want to knit and donate items. It got me thinking about how many others would want to make things for SCARS, and the SCARS Craft Fair idea was born. I wanted to do something to raise money for SCARS and support our local, small, handmade businesses!”

In November 2018, Jill ran her first SCARS Christmas Craft Fair at the Westmount Junior High School. This event had a total of 35 local, small business vendors. “The event was a huge success, raising right around $11,000, so I decided to organize a spring show too!”

The 2019 SCARS Spring Craft Fair was an indoor/outdoor market at Westmount Junior High with 65 vendors; all local and small businesses with handmade items. In total, the Spring Craft fair raised $11,400.

The November 17, 2019 SCARS Christmas Craft Fair was even bigger! Jill moved the Fair to the Alberta Aviation Museum. This incredible event featured 80 local, small businesses all with handmade items and raised just over $22,500!

“What makes our craft fairs unique is that they are pet friendly! Our patrons can bring their furry best friends with them to shop, take a picture and grab a snack!”

Jill is in full-swing planning the 2020 SCARS Spring Craft Fair which will take place again at the Alberta Aviation Museum. It will again feature 80 vendors as well as prize raffles, a 50/50 draw, face painting, spring pet & family photos and a food truck! You will not want to miss it!

“These events could not happen without our vendors and volunteers! There are many people that help me behind the scenes to make this event a huge success! From my friends and family who are there for set up and take down, who work all day selling raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets and help me organize the vendors, to the SCARS family who help set up the Meet & Greet and merchandise sales and work the event all day.”

Thank you, Jill for your endless amount of work in creating such fantastic events all for all good cause! We are so grateful for your continued support
