From one of our awesome foster home volunteers, Laurie.
“I don’t typically share much, but I felt compelled to express my thoughts regarding this latest group of kittens, as they have presented me with my greatest challenge to date.
Caring for bottle-fed babies is incredibly difficult, and it can often be heart-wrenching.
Each day is a new journey, and I take it hour by hour. If luck is on your side, your efforts can lead to these little ones growing and finding loving homes.
However, too many times, despite your best efforts, they struggle to thrive, and you may lose them. This leaves you heartbroken and questioning whether you could have done anything differently to save them. I’ve come to realize that sometimes, there’s nothing you could have done to change the outcome. These fragile souls can appear healthy one moment and then deteriorate suddenly.
This recent batch of kittens has been both a challenge and a learning experience for me and the veterinarians. Out of six kittens that entered my care, four have sadly passed away, while myself & Patsy have been tirelessly working to save the remaining two. At nearly three weeks old, they are still like newborns.
The smallest weighs only 137 grams, despite being fed every two hours, day and night. Patsys kitten, the larger of the two, weighs 200 grams – a milestone we celebrated together.
I am astonished by how tiny they are, but as long as they are fighting to survive, we will continue to fight for them. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers; they truly need all the support they can get.
