To say that Fly has settled in nicely is a mild understatement. This little boy who has chosen US to be his lifelong parents (and grandparents – they live with us) has blessed us with kisses and snuggles and laughter since Day One. It was the BEST Canada Day ever when we drove to Athabasca to the SCARS Sanctuary to get him and bring him home.

Here are some updates from Fly himself:

  1. I think my name is Fly, but mommy, daddy, grandpa and grandma keep calling me things like McFly, Marty McFly, Dude, Buddy and Little Boy. I am not sure what my name is, but a huge hug and kisses usually follow it, so it’s okay. If it makes them happy, I will allow it.
  2. I am allowed to do my “business” in the backyard! This is exciting as it’s so close! Every time I do something, my mom freaks out, claps, runs into the house, and gives me the most amazing treats! So I figure it must be a good thing, so I will keep doing it, and it’s becoming a routine!
  3. They keep asking me if I want to go on a “walk” with them, but I am still not sure what that word means. Mommy and daddy must love it, though, because they get really excited and run to the door to get my leash, so I go along with it!
  4. They bought me a bunch of these furry little creatures called toys, and I wasn’t sure why at first, but then I figured out they squeak, and it’s pretty cool! They also gave me this funny-looking bone that tastes like bacon, and boy, is it hard to chew, but mommy keeps saying it’s cleaning my teeth!
  5. There is this really big piece of furniture they call a bed, and another one they call a couch, and they let me sleep on it! I sleep so good on the bed that I dream, howl, and snore!
  6. I keep seeing my reflection in this big square thing on the wall. It looks like a dog, but I am not sure, so I keep growling and barking. Mommy keeps telling me that it’s my pretty face, but I don’t understand. The dog in the mirror needs to know that this is my house now and I won’t have it.
  7. I don’t really know about this food that humans eat, but it smells really good – sometimes. I don’t like the smell of peanut butter, watermelon, apples, or bananas. Mommy said I am weird, but maybe I will learn to like it later. Mommy did give me a piece of something the other day and told me that one was steak and the other was cheese. Holy cow, it’s tasty, and it smells really good!
  8. Mommy made me some frozen treats for hot days in the freezer. They are big square ice cubes made with zero-fat Greek yogurt, bananas, and a bit of water, and holy cow, are they ever good! I got to lick the whole bowl before she put them in the freezer!
  9. Daddy calls me clumsy and is pretty sure that I must have bruises all over my poor knees. He says I have no concept of space or distance, so I either miss the jump or land on my face! It really makes them laugh so much! My favourite thing is to run and dive right onto daddy sitting on the couch and lick his whole face and roll around like I am a crazy dog!
  10. Grandpa loves me so much that when mommy and daddy are at work, he brings me out to lie on the deck or in the grass all day so that I can make sure that he’s okay. I think he likes having me look over him to make sure he is safe. He also brings me for a long walk around lunchtime.
  11. When daddy gets home from work, he brings me for a REALLY long walk, and I get another treat when I get home because I did my “business”. These humans are quite funny because I am pretty sure that they don’t get any treats for doing their “business”. LOL
  12. On Saturday and Sunday mornings, daddy gets up at 7 am, we get in the truck, and we drive to a park somewhere, then walk for 2 hours!!!! I think daddy really likes his exercise because he walks a lot!

As you can see (attached) and hear from Fly himself, he is happy, safe, and loved! It’s been a lot in just 6 short days, but boy, is he happy, and we are so happy that he chose us. Now every Canada Day is “gotchya” day for Fly. We are so happy we gotchya buddy!….I mean Fly. LOL
