Meet Elizyah!
I started with SCARS October 2019. Since finishing my BBA Degree in April, I had a ton of free time and wasn’t sure what to do with it. I came across a post about becoming a SCARS volunteer and I thought what a wonderful way to fill my time and to help animals in need.
My very first event was the 2019 Christmas Craft Fair. It was exciting and overwhelming all at the same time! So many new faces to meet and all the wonderful people both at the SCARS booth and the vendors who participated. After that I continued to volunteer for a couple more events, picking up donations and helping to deliver the annual SCARS calendars to participating pet stores. I was provided the opportunity to help out here and there with the cat supplies for the rescue in December 2019. In April 2020 when the opportunity to manage the cat supplies full time was proposed, I was so excited! This is what I am currently doing and I enjoy every minute of it. This position has given me the opportunity to communicate with various foster homes and meet wonderful individuals.
The thing I love about SCARS is how amazing and kind the volunteers are. They are always ready and willing to lend a hand, answer questions or give ideas when someone is in a pickle. Every time I see this, I am overwhelmed by the kindness. In a world that can seem so cruel, SCARS constantly reminds me that there are truly caring and unselfish people in this world if you just take a moment to pause and really look.
