September 8, 2024 Update – Cargo

You are not going to believe your eyes! It is a good thing we have evidence in pictures! This is what SCARS is about! This is what donations, volunteering, and fostering can do…. Talk about a glow up! Introducing Cargo, version 2.0. I’m off to play now! (And find my forever home)! Yep, it’s true it’s me. Thanks to each and every one of you who support this charity. Your contributions saved my life. The before and after pictures say it all.

August 24, 2024 Update – Cargo here and take a look at me! I looked awful, smelled worse, and felt horrendous. That was just a short while ago. All it took was the right medicine, time, the love and patience of a foster home, good nutrition, and more love and patience from a foster home. And now… the Demodex is gone, the swelling is gone, the scabs healing up. My skin is repairing and changing colour, my hair is growing back, and it looks like I might be a beautiful brindle after all that!

August 15, 2024 Update

Nope, you aren’t seeing double. My name is Roman, and we are 99% sure that I am Cargo’s brother (see below from August 7).  We came from the same municipal pound, look the same age/size, and have the same features. Same nasty Demodex infection.

Once again, SCARS acted quickly and got me to veterinary care, just like they did for my brother. Thank goodness my recovery has started. My skin is in worse shape, but I came in a week later. Demodex can explode quickly, so a week can make a big difference. Like my brother, I am receiving great care. Treatment for the mites, calming baths, medicines for the discomfort, and secondary infections. I am getting treats, delicious meals, and soft blankets to sleep on. I can’t wait to get a foster home and for you to see my transformation.

August 7, 2024

Cargo here and yes I look….well, awful right now. I have Demodex. It is these microscopic mites that usually exist in equally minuscule numbers in healthy animals. However, in stressed, young, poorly nourished dogs, they can explode in numbers seemingly overnight. When this happens, the mites attack the skin, we get open sores, lose our fur, and often get secondary bacterial skin infections. We get very itchy, uncomfortable, and sadly a bit smelly. That is exactly what happened to me.

Recognizing I needed help and couldn’t wait, the municipal pound contacted SCARS. Drivers were arranged, and I started my journey, which took me straight to veterinary care. What a great moment that was! I got a full exam, a tasty chewy treat, and those nasty little bitey mites were decimated. Then I got a soothing bath, some meds to start to cure the infection, and a cozy blanket. Let me tell you, after a nice meal, I just curled up into blissful sleep.

The next day it was more travel, but I was so happy it didn’t matter. Off I went to a foster home. This is even better than the vet clinic! I am getting the same royal treatment, plus there are toys and treats and new friends… four-legged and two-legged, big and small.

Recovery will take a while. I still smell kinda bad (sorry, foster home), but I really love what you are doing for me. Can’t wait for everyone to follow my story and see my transformation. It will be unbelievable.
