March 10, 2026 Update
The staff at Guardian are so great and Buddy is doing okay. He had to go back in to get more fluid drained from his chest. Please keep him in your thoughts.

Buddy came in with a chronic diaphragmatic hernia after having been hit by a vehicle some time ago. He’s endured a lot, and we’re grateful to share that he recently underwent major surgery to put his liver back in place after it had sat in his chest, causing a range of medical issues. He needed a chest tube to drain fluid from his chest and abdomen, and now we’re in a waiting game to see if his liver can recover on its own. The good news is that Buddy is slowly but surely recovering and he’s happier than ever to soak up the attention from staff at Guardian Veterinary Centre. However, the reality is that because his liver sat in his chest for so long, his recovery is uncertain and he may need medications for the rest of his life. Thank you to the amazing team at Guardian Veterinary Centre and to everyone who keeps Buddy in your thoughts.

Meet Buddy. He’s 4 years old and came to us severely emaciated, but what we’re most concerned about right now is his breathing. He’s been diagnosed with pleural effusion — fluid in the chest cavity — and he’s receiving urgent care at a veterinary emergency clinic. While the exact cause is still unknown, we’re hopeful that with timely treatment, Buddy can recover and thrive. We will need emergency medical care and monitoring, and diagnostic tests to uncover the cause of the pleural effusion.
