Jan. 20/22 … I am one of the newest SCARS intakes. My name is Bailey! I came into SCARS late last week and I am loving it so far! Why am I carrying my leg you might ask? Well here is my story and it’s not a happy one. I found myself in the wrong place at the wrong time and was struck by a vehicle when I was pup. My injury is old and was not treated so I never had the chance heal properly. I will need my leg amputated the humans have said. For now I am able to move around and walk, but my leg does slow me down and gets in the way. Since I have been injured, I haven’t been able to run and feel the wind in my hair for a while so I am a little bit overweight. My foster home has me on a regular feeding schedule and healthy treats to help me lose weight. I am not yet available for adoption but stay tuned for my updates.
January 26, 2022 update…Well, it’s me Bailey. Wish me all the luck as I undergo the amputation surgery at Westlock Veterinary Center. To donate direct to my care: www.scarscare.ca/donate and memo Bailey. I won’t be ready for adoption just yet but I will be soon!
January 29…Bailey here! I just wanted to give you a pupdate. As you know, I went in for surgery to get my right leg amputated as it had healed wrong after I was struck by a vehicle as a puppy. It was a very stressful time for me, but the humans at Westlock treated me like a queen and told me I did really well. I was desperate to get back to my foster home though. Once I saw my foster mom and dad, I could not stop wagging my tail. I’m on day two post-op and I’m still a bit groggy and tired. However, I still find any reason to wag my tail. The extra weight of that leg is gone, it’s easier to sit down and go to the bathroom. I’m still getting used to not having that leg, but I see a bright future with just my three legs. My foster parents and siblings are taking good care of me. I do hate the cone, so it’s been a bit of an adjustment for me to get used to. I will update you in about a week though! I’m sure I’ll be running by then! Until then!
