Overview: Second Chance Animal Rescue Society is dedicated to the welfare and rehabilitation of animals in need. We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Animal Caregiver to join our team. This individual will play a crucial role in providing care, comfort, and love to our animals while helping to facilitate their journey to a forever home. This position reports to the Team Leads.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Daily Care: Ensure the well-being of all dogs and cats by providing food, water, and proper shelter while maintaining cleanliness in habitats.
  • Health Monitoring: Observe and report any signs of illness or distress in the animals. Administer medications and maintain vaccination schedules as directed by veterinary staff.
  • Socialization: Spend quality time with the animals, engaging them in play and exercise to promote healthy social behaviours and reduce anxiety.
  • Training Support: Assist in basic training and behaviour modification techniques to prepare animals for adoption. Help integrate new arrivals into the shelter environment.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of animal care, including feeding schedules, behavior notes, and medical treatments.
  • Communication: Work collaboratively with other staff members and volunteers, as well as communicate effectively with potential adopters and the public.
  • Cleanliness and Safety: Maintain a clean and safe environment for both animals and visitors, following all safety protocols and guidelines.
  • Event Participation: Assist with adoption events, fundraising activities, and community outreach initiatives designed to promote awareness and support for the rescue organization.
  • Transportation: Arrange transportation for animals coming and going from the facility.
  • Emergencies: Assist with any medical emergencies. This may require transportation or on-site emergency care.

Qualifications:

  • A genuine love for animals and a commitment to their well-being.
  • Previous experience in animal care, veterinary assistance, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to handle and care for animals of various temperaments and sizes.
  • Basic knowledge of animal behaviour and handling techniques is a plus.
  • Must be physically capable of lifting and moving large animals, as well as performing tasks that require stamina and agility.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including weekends and holidays as required.
