Oct. 27/26. Meet Chance! It is shocking that the SCARS family can still be shocked. We have seen so much, yet today we were once again left in sad disbelief.
Late afternoon at our Morinville Rescue Center, a good Samaritan arrived at reception asking for our help. They had found a dog on an area roadside, and beyond knowing they had to pick it up, they didn’t know where to turn. So they looked for the helpers….and like so many before found SCARS.
Our staff gasped at the sight of the new arrival. Words and pictures can not really describe how painfully emaciated this dog is. A skeleton with skin …. every bone in his body, to the tip of his tail, is showing. Tears flowed as he looked at staff with trusting, hopefully eyes, despite his terrible condition.
We do not know any circumstances of how he arrived at that roadside. What we do know is tonight he is safe, warm, loved, and very carefully enjoying his first small bites of food (a dog this emaciated can’t have a large meal, he will be fed gradually as he rebuilds his capacity to eat). We also know he has a long road to recovery. It will take months of care.
You can’t join the SCARS family without a name…..Chance just seemed so fitting in this case. Help us welcome Chance to a brighter future.
If you can support the work we do day in and day out, it would mean the world to us and dogs like Chance.
