Timing they say is everything! We couldn’t agree more! It started with a call and a picture. A dog has arrived in our yard, she looks really pregnant. We don’t know what to do. Can SCARS help us? SCARS is operating at capacity these days. Each adoption potentially creates a spot. Our foster home team is constantly managing to place as many as we can. Pregnant moms are priority, but also among the hardest to place. A huge team effort opened up the spot we needed at Morinville Rescue Centre. Wednesday, on her day off, SCARS founder, Sylvia, headed out on a long drive. The mission – get this pregnant girl to care. Hours of driving later, our new mom-to-be was settling into the maternity room at MRC. Not a Moment Too Soon. Less than 24 hours later, labor began. It would be long and a bit harrowing at times. It started badly with the first pup needing assistance. Coached by the on-call vet from Westlock Veterinary Center, our staff member helped her deliver the first pup. Sadly, it was still born. Without care and assistance, the rest of the litter and mom’s life would have been compromised as well. Things went better after that. Two pups quickly followed, then another … and another … and another…. and another…. Oh my, 13 in total, 2 sadly were stillborn. Please help us welcome 11 new pudgy beautiful souls to the SCARS family. Our deepest admiration and gratitude to our staff members who stayed the night and kept the family safe. Everyone is exhausted, but so thankful our timing was perfect. Please continue to support SCARS, every animal adopted saves 2 lives, or maybe 12, you never know.
