SCARS is looking for a part-time kennel assistant (up to 30 hours/week) at our Morinville Rescue Centre. Days, evenings, and some weekends are required. Resumes should be submitted as soon as possible. Selected candidates will be contacted for an interview.

Position Summary: We are seeking help at the Morinville Rescue Centre to ensure daily operations run smoothly and pets feel secure and cared for until they find their forever homes. If you’re the meticulous type who finds joy in cleanliness, organization, and completing tasks, we want you on our team. Expect lots of pet interaction, a fast pace, heavy lifting, lots of cleaning and piles of laundry, but the reward of finding loving homes for pets in need makes it all worthwhile.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Complete the daily cleaning procedures to maintain a healthy and safe environment
  • Enter medical and behavioural information into our shelter management program
  • Administer any necessary medications
  • Ensure all animals are receiving adequate nutrition and exercise
  • Transporting animals to and from vet appointments
  • Work closely with volunteers in a courteous and manner
  • Work well as part of a team
  • Communicate animal related health and behavioural concerns and any occupational hazards to management
  • Respond to any emergencies as needed
  • Assist with facility maintenance

Qualifications:

  • Must have a genuine concern for the well-being of animals
  • Be able to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Organized, detail oriented, and reliable
  • Good interpersonal communications skills
  • Basic data entry computer skills
  • Emotional resilience to handle difficult and stressful situations
  • Ability to set priorities and manage workloads with minimal supervision
  • Class 5 Drivers License

Experience

  • Must have experience handling dogs and cats.

Working conditions

Most work is performed in a normal shelter setting; potential for exposure to zoonotic diseases; potential exposure to feral and scared animals; exposure to high noise levels; potential for animal bites and scratches when handling animals; exposure to cleaning products; exposure to various weather conditions.

Physical Activities Include: Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance and heavier amounts with assistance; sitting at a desk, performing data entry; driving shelter vehicles; bending, squatting, cleaning, crawling, performing physical examinations on animals, animal restraint, handling needles and syringes.
