Hi four leggers, my name is Toast and I'm Peanut's sister. I know, I know, we barely look anything alike (I got the two different coloured eyes thing happening, gorgeous I know), but I promise you, spend 10 minutes with us and you will see that we fight and love each other like sisters do! My foster mom calls me Toasty-girl because of my beautiful light brown colouring, and that suits me just fine. I will be honest; people make me very nervous and it takes me a long time to warm up to humans. Don't get me wrong, I am never mean or nippy, I just hide under the table, which means I will need a home where all the people are calm, patient and kind. I will do best in a home with older children because those young ones move way too fast and are way too loud! How others are not terrified of them I will never understand. My foster mom has learned a few tricks so that now (one month in) I enjoy belly rubs, cuddles and playing with my people-so here are the tricks. 1) Move slowly-fast hands are scary, but slow hands, kind words and getting down to my level really helps. With calm hands, I even stand totally still to have a bath! 2) Treats-I love them and learned fast how to sit just so I can get treats. But I'm a smart girl and learned that 2 leggers use treats to get us to do things we don't want, like putting the leash thing on me. My foster mom says I'm a great walker on the leash, I just don't like getting that thing attached to me! 3) Sit around me or beside me and wait; I do eventually come to you once I get to know you and if I don't right away, keep trying. 4) Keep your voice calm-house training has been a little harder for me because when I'm interrupted, I get scared and run, and well, it becomes a bit of a pee-a-palooza but I also like to please my people, so I'm only having the occasional accident these days!) And last but not least, 5) have another happy, confident, well-trained dog in the home-this will be very important because they help me feel less scared and to have the courage to try new things, like meet a new family! And, because I love to wrestle and play with other dogs, so there is that too! My foster mom says that I will make a loving addition to a family, so if you think you are that family, my foster mom will be very happy to meet you (and I will too, even though I might be scared at first!)
