Position Summary:
We are seeking a dedicated Spay/Neuter Coordinator to engage with participating communities and assist with the Spay/Neuter Return (SNR) and Walls for Winter programs. This part-time role will require driving to and from rural communities and flexibility in scheduling, including days, evenings, and some weekends.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Schedule veterinary appointments for animals
  • Transport—or arrange transport—of animals from communities to veterinary clinics and the SCARS facilities and back to their communities
  • Manage and track animals using SCARS Shelter Management system
  • Organize and participate in fundraising initiatives
  • Document and maintain accurate animal records
  • Work with volunteers in a courteous and professional manner
  • Respond to public inquiries in a professional, timely, and respectful manner
  • Address emergencies as they arise
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies

Qualifications:

  • A genuine concern for the well-being of animals
  • Personable demeanor with excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Able to collaborate with volunteers and staff in a team-oriented environment
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience handling animals
  • Capable of working in a fast-paced environment
  • Data entry skills
  • Highly organized and reliable
  • Strong prioritization and workload management skills with minimal supervision
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License and comfortable driving long distance day trips

Experience:

  • Must have hands-on experience handling dogs and cats

Working Conditions:

  • Physically capable of handling dogs and cats
  • Ability to respond effectively to emergencies
  • Willingness to work on days, evenings, and weekends
  • This position is fast-paced, physically demanding, and can be emotionally challenging at times. You will be working with animals from unknown backgrounds, including those with little to no training. Patience and compassion for their situations are essential. However, the work is highly rewarding!
